Medford MSC Selenium provides selenium in the form of methylselenocysteine (MSC), a highly bioavailable organic selenium compound that is readily absorbed and well tolerated. Selenium is an essential trace mineral involved in numerous biological processes and is required for the formation of selenoproteins, which play an important role in antioxidant protection, immune function, thyroid hormone metabolism and cellular health.
The body cannot produce selenium, therefore adequate intake must come from dietary sources or supplementation. However, soil depletion and modern agricultural practices may reduce selenium levels in commonly consumed foods. Factors such as ageing, gastrointestinal absorption issues, smoking, alcohol intake and certain medical conditions may also contribute to lower selenium status.
Methylselenocysteine is a naturally occurring selenium-containing amino acid found in plants such as garlic, onions and broccoli.
